Krista and Matt are two of the most wonderful people I’ve met in a long time… and I’m lucky to call them my friends. They’ve also got the sense of adventure that photographers dream of for wedding photos. I wouldn’t have been able to create these images had Krista not wanted to have a day-after portrait session, one in which she suggested we ‘trash the dress’. This allowed us to do just about anything… but Krista definitely had her heart set on an ‘Ophelia shot’. Soooo… yep! she got down into the freezing cold water and floated for 1 frame. Definitely a highlight of my wedding season! We had so much fun, and I had such a joyful time editing their collection for the variety of shots we were able to do with no time restrictions.
For any future brides considering options for their wedding photography… a day-after session is a great way to beautiful wedding portraits. It doesn’t have to be the ‘day after’ either. It can be any day before or after your wedding day where we do the couple’s wedding portraits. This allows endless possibilities for your photos… there’s no restrictions for time or location choices because the session isn’t trying to be scheduled into your wedding day timeline. This also allows for better flow on the wedding day and more time with your guests!
Krista and Matt… thank you so much for including me in your wedding day. I’m so happy to have been there, and feel fortunate to have witnessed this kind of love…
Hang on, cause there’s lots-o-pics!!

Becky came to visit me on a wedding preparation trip from Toronto, where she lives, and I knew instantly that it would be great to work with her. She’s beautiful, gracious, smart, knows what she wants, and is full of laughter and joyfulness. I didn’t get a chance to meet Rob until our afternoon of shooting in Gastown, but I knew instantly that they were a great match… Rob and Becky spent much of our time together laughing, which I think is one of the strongest foundations for a great relationship. They weren’t afraid to show their fun-loving sides, but then out of nowhere were some beautiful moments of quiet connectedness that outshone everything around them. Becky and Rob, it was a joy to witness these moments. Thank you for that…

It’s mother’s day, and I’d like to share a bit of something with everyone. Now that I’ve got my own beautiful babe, I’ve been thinking about all of the moments I’ve shared with my mum. My memories start pretty early, with my earliest memories beginning when I’m 2, and getting really vivid when I’m about 4. I remember the house we lived in, I remember walking to school, I remember rainbow popsicles from the ice cream truck, and I remember green tree frogs in our backyard…
But even before all of this, I have a memory of being extremely happy. I don’t have many image memories, but I have a lot of sense memories. There was a time when I felt so loved and so safe that this feeling still lives in me today. I have a couple of memories that go along with this which include an image of a very large window that went to the floor, and tall waving grass outside the window and trees in the distance. I also remember the music of Bread. This is where we were living and the music that was playing when I felt so happy. This was a time when my mum and I were everything to each other. It was a certainty that she loved me and that all was well in the world. This is where I learned about what it means to be a mother. This is where I learned about the strength of a mother’s love.
And this is why this is my favourite photo of all time. I look at it often, and it instantly fills me with the same feelings I had at the time. safe. warm. loved. happy. in my mother’s arms…
happy mother’s day to all women who offer their arms to their babes and fill this world with this wonderful foundation for humanity. may we all feel this warm and this loved…

Okay, so when my son was born I thought he was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen. He definitely holds all of my heart’s attention, but my heart got a pretty good tug when I first saw this baby girl. Welcome to the world Marlowe… we’ve been waiting months to see her, and she didn’t disappoint us with her beautiful smile, tufts of dark hair, and the most adorable little chin you’ve ever seen. We debate back and forth who she looks like, but it’s true that she has both her mama and her papa’s good looks :) Marlowe was a spectacular model, sleeping soundly and politely letting us know when she was hungry. Kara and Marcel, you’ve got such a wonderful gift here…

erica and sean contacted me from toronto and told me about their wedding plans for whistler and i was immediately excited. they seemed thoroughly in love, and the details of their story were so beautiful, right down to the whistler location because even though they live in toronto, they met in whistler and it’s become a special place for them. so the fact that they live in toronto left little options for their engagement session, so we shot this just days before their wedding… i think you can see the love and excitement in these photos about the fact that their wedding is only days away. we had so much fun, and their winter wedding was AMAZING… more photos to come!
thanks erica and sean for showing me this…

So I’d like to preface by saying that ALL of my clients are amazing, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to meet such awesome people, but once in a while there’s someone who is extra dear to me…
I’m sure by now most everyone knows that I went through my first pregnancy and delivery recently, and now have a beautiful son. Well, the delivery, while it was the most challenging thing I’ve ever experienced, was wonderful. I got to fulfill my dream of delivering my son in the comfort and warm atmosphere of my home with my husband Craig and close friend Heather. It was uncomplicated and fairly quick. But the main reason that it was such a positive experience was because of Sarah, my midwife. She guided me through everything, encouraged me, and reminded me that my baby was coming and my life was about to get that much better. I cannot explain my gratitude for what she gave to me and my family…
So of course, as a gift, I offered what I have to give, which is photography. It turns out she’s getting married soon (to Todd, another wonderful person I’m glad I met), and although it was a destination wedding and she already had a photographer for it, she didn’t have any engagement photos. I’m so glad to have the opportunity to give her a small something in return…
Sarah, we love you and are so glad you were there for Aahva’s first breaths… I hope you have babies soon too, so I can take more pictures of you and Todd :)

This session is one of my recent favourites for several reasons… the best of which is that I got to work with these two amazing people for an afternoon to create some images that truly reflect who they are. Also, they were up for just about anything, and that always excites me. We focused on more industrial locations and this was such fun! I’m always thrilled when clients are willing to be unconventional to create great images. Carissa and Austin, your unique and wonderful personalities shine in these portraits. Thanks for the wonder and the exploration. Congrats to you both!
On a side note, this session was wedding portraits only. For anyone wanting to stick to a budget, but still wanting great portraits, I’m happy to offer couples’ wedding portraits exclusively, and look forward to creating beautiful wedding imagery for any budget. If you’ve been dreaming of having amazing images that reflect your love and your personalities, but are budget conscious, here’s your solution! Contact me for more information about wedding portrait sessions or to arrange a studio visit to talk about your dream wedding imagery…

my work takes me places just to show me how wonderful every day of life is. on this day, i got to visit the home of two beautiful people who have the evidence of their joy in the form a little boy. cole offered me a couple of hours of wonderous gazes, fully engaged stares, and playful glances. he discovered my camera and the unexpected moment of a full head dunk in the tub. while the universe was unfolding before him in new and familiar ways, my heart was tripling in size for this beautiful little boy and the world he inhabits with his amazing parents. thank you liana and neil for sharing the joy of your new son with me. truly wonderous…

some recent images of new small people i adore…

This story actually started a couple of years ago when I gave my husband scuba diving lessons for his birthday. Craig and I are now dive buddies and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the classes and training to get our certification, mostly because of our AMAZING instructor. Landon is smart, super funny, and always ready for an adventure. So when he contacted me to tell me that he was getting married this year I was so happy and excited, and not at all surprised to hear that his fiance was a student of his! When I met with Bria and Landon to talk about photography, I knew that they were a perfect match. They have a great connection with one another that includes a lot of laughing and playfulness. Needless to say, we had WAY too much fun on this shoot! I can’t wait for their wedding later this year…
Hang on, cause there’s a lot of images in this post! It was hard to choose…
